NASENI Empowers 1,000 Lagos Residents with Solar Systems, Cookstoves, Skills Training

The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has extended its Sustainable Empowerment Programme (NSEP) to Lagos State, empowering 1,000 beneficiaries with clean energy solutions, livelihood support, and practical skills training as part of its broader effort to deploy science and technology solutions directly into Nigerian homes and communities.

The Lagos edition of the programme was held on Friday, August 28, 2026, at the LTV Blue Roof in Agidingbi, Ikeja, and featured the distribution of 400 NASENI Power Stoves, 100 NASENI Home Solar Solutions, and additional NASENI Support Packs to beneficiaries who had earlier undergone a three-day training exercise covering various vocational and technical skills. Beyond the equipment distribution, participants also received practical skills training in Plaster of Paris (POP) installation and electrical maintenance, equipping them with trades they can use to generate income going forward.

The event drew a range of political and legislative dignitaries. Hon. Akeem Dauda commended NASENI for bringing the programme to Lagos and urged beneficiaries to make productive use of the opportunities provided. Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Finance, Hon. James Abiodun Faleke, represented by Hon. Princess Samiat Abolanle Bada, Executive Chairman of Ikosi-Isheri LCDA, described the programme as a practical demonstration of government interventions directly reaching ordinary citizens. Faleke, according to his representative, described the initiative as proof that "when the government empowers the people, opportunities are created, and when opportunities are created, prosperity follows."

The Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, was represented at the event by the member representing Surulere Constituency in the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Fuad Laguda, who similarly commended the initiative as part of the tangible dividends of the Renewed Hope Agenda reaching Lagos residents.

NASENI Executive Vice Chairman, Khalil Suleiman Halilu, explained that through NSEP, the agency is working to provide Nigerians with practical technologies, relevant skills, and livelihood support, while demonstrating how science, technology, and engineering can translate directly into jobs, enterprise, cleaner energy access, improved productivity, and better livelihoods for beneficiaries. He said the overarching goal of the programme is to help beneficiaries move from simply learning to actually earning, and from being recipients of support to becoming productive economic participants in their own right.

The Lagos rollout forms part of a broader, nationwide expansion of the NSEP initiative, which NASENI has been implementing across several Nigerian states in recent weeks as part of its strategy to take practical science, technology, and engineering solutions beyond laboratories and factories into Nigerian homes, businesses, and communities. The Lagos edition follows a similar Phase III rollout held in Kabo Local Government Area of Kano State, where 1,200 residents received clean cooking stoves, solar home systems, and support packages including bags of rice and ₦20,000 in cash. NASENI has also extended comparable empowerment interventions to communities in Abia State as part of the same broader push toward sustainable livelihoods and local innovation.

Across these various state rollouts, NASENI's empowerment model has consistently combined the direct distribution of clean-energy equipment, such as solar home systems and efficient cookstoves, with hands-on vocational skills training, an approach the agency says is designed to ensure beneficiaries walk away not just with tools, but with the practical knowledge needed to put those tools to sustained economic use.

For Lagos specifically, the Ikeja rollout adds another chapter to the agency's growing, multi-state empowerment drive, with officials expressing confidence that the combination of clean energy access, cash and equipment support, and targeted skills training would help translate government intervention into lasting economic opportunity for the 1,000 beneficiaries reached under this latest edition of the programme.
