Nasarawa Gov Inaugurates 5.2km Akwanga-Jos Bypass, Other Roads
Governor Abdullahi Sule has inaugurated a 5.2km bypass in Akwanga and one-kilometre roads in three local government areas to improve traffic flow and stimulate development.
Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has inaugurated the newly completed 5.2-kilometre Akwanga-Jos bypass, alongside one-kilometre roads constructed in three local government areas of the state.
The projects were inaugurated on Saturday as part of activities marking the 30th anniversary of the creation of Nasarawa State.
The bypass, located in Akwanga Local Government Area, was designed to decongest the town, reduce accidents and shorten travel time for motorists travelling towards Jos.
Sule said the road would also connect communities along the corridor, extend the lifespan of existing township roads and create opportunities for new settlements, agriculture and commercial activities.
“This is more than a road. It is an economic corridor,” he said.
The governor explained that the bypass was constructed to the standard of a federal highway to withstand heavy-duty traffic.
He also promised to install solar street lights along the route to improve visibility and safety for motorists at night.
Sule said his administration would continue constructing and rehabilitating roads across the state’s 13 local government areas.
The governor also inaugurated one-kilometre roads constructed by the chairmen of Akwanga, Nasarawa Eggon and Wamba Local Government Areas.
The council chairmen, Sadiyanu Isa-Andaha of Akwanga, Ilita Aliyu of Nasarawa Eggon and Ezekiel Jaga of Wamba, commended the governor for granting greater autonomy to the local councils.
They pledged to execute additional projects that would directly benefit residents at the grassroots.
The Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport, Yakubu Kwanta, said the bypass would encourage the development of new settlements and commercial activities along the corridor.
The Chun Mada, Samson Gamu-Yare, also commended the project, saying it would ease the difficulties faced by motorists and residents in Akwanga.
The inauguration formed part of activities planned for the state’s 30th anniversary, which will include religious services, sports events, an awards ceremony and other programmes.
