Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has disclosed that he earns a monthly salary of ₦503,000, while Permanent Secretaries in the state civil service receive ₦900,000.

Oborevwori made the disclosure on Thursday during the inauguration of 12 four-bedroom terraced duplexes for Permanent Secretaries and the presentation of 12 official vehicles to newly appointed Permanent Secretaries in Asaba, the state capital.

The governor explained that the salaries of Permanent Secretaries were recently reviewed upward after they complained that some directors were earning almost the same amount as them.

According to him, the adjustment was intended to reflect their responsibilities and seniority within the civil service.

“When the Permanent Secretaries said most of the Directors are receiving almost the same thing with them, we increased their money. Today, Permanent Secretaries, your salary is 900, my salary is 503,000, Governor’s salary,” Oborevwori said.

He added that the state Head of Service earns ₦1 million monthly.

Beyond salaries, the governor said his administration had continued to prioritise the welfare and professional development of civil servants.

He noted that the government had provided official vehicles to serving Permanent Secretaries to improve their mobility and operational effectiveness, while the newly appointed officials also received vehicles during the ceremony.

Oborevwori disclosed that 302 public officers had benefited from the Public Officers’ Vehicle Loan Scheme, while another 119 had benefited from the Public Officers’ Housing Loan Scheme.

He also said civil servants interested in agriculture had received farm inputs to enable them to generate additional income while contributing to food production.

The governor further disclosed that 450 senior management staff participated in a seven-weekend training programme through a partnership with the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria.

According to him, the appointment of 12 Permanent Secretaries in May ensured that every local government area in Delta State was represented at that level of the civil service.

Oborevwori said the appointments were based on merit rather than political recommendations.

The governor also announced that Delta State had approved the payment of a 13th-month salary to civil servants beginning from December 2026.

He said the government was preparing an executive bill to give the policy legal backing and ensure its continuation beyond his tenure.

Oborevwori urged civil servants to reject absenteeism, nepotism, waste, inefficiency, bribery and corruption, stressing that improved welfare must be matched by effective service delivery.
