A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mr Dele Momodu, has said the party knows how to prevent President Bola Tinubu from securing a second term in the 2027 general election.

Momodu made the statement during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme on Wednesday, saying opposition figures were working behind the scenes to challenge Tinubu’s re-election bid.

He declined to disclose the party’s strategy, arguing that its plans would not be made public before the election.

Momodu recalled Tinubu’s political struggles during his second-term bid as governor of Lagos State, saying opposition figures were similarly working to build a strategy capable of challenging the President.

The publisher of Ovation Magazine also questioned the neutrality of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) under the Tinubu administration, alleging that the President had appointed too many people from the South-West to the electoral body.

He claimed that many Nigerians, including some supporters of the President, doubted whether the 2027 election would be free and fair.

Momodu further argued that the determination of ordinary Nigerians would play a significant role in the election, saying his confidence was not based solely on the ADC but also on citizens dissatisfied with the prospect of another Tinubu term.

He alleged that fear had weakened the willingness of governors, judges and lawmakers to challenge the President, adding that some political figures who publicly supported Tinubu privately hoped he would lose the election.

The ADC chieftain said the opposition would continue working towards its objective without publicly revealing the details of its plans.

His remarks come as political parties and opposition leaders intensify preparations for the 2027 general election, with debates continuing over electoral transparency, political alliances and the performance of the current administration.
