MLS: Messi Hits 927 Career Goals With Four Strikes Against Montreal

Lionel Messi reached 927 career goals on Saturday after scoring four times to inspire Inter Miami to a commanding 7-1 victory over CF Montréal in Major League Soccer.

The 39-year-old Argentine produced one of the finest individual performances of his Inter Miami career, scoring twice before halftime and adding two more goals after the break. The result ended Miami’s five-match winless run across all competitions.

Inter Miami took the lead in the 20th minute through Brazilian midfielder Casemiro, who headed home from a corner. Montréal responded in the 37th minute when Fabian Herbers equalised.

Messi restored Miami’s advantage three minutes later with a free-kick that found the net after goalkeeper Thomas Gillier was unable to keep it out.

The Argentine doubled his tally in the 52nd minute with a brilliant individual effort. Messi weaved through several Montréal defenders before firing a low shot into the bottom corner.

He then turned provider for former Barcelona teammate Luis Suárez, who scored Miami’s fourth goal in the 80th minute.

Three minutes later, Messi completed his hat-trick with a delicate chip over Gillier after receiving the ball in a dangerous position.

Teenage substitute Alexander Shaw added Miami’s sixth goal in the 89th minute before Messi completed his extraordinary four-goal haul deep into stoppage time with another spectacular free-kick.

The performance was Messi’s first four-goal game in MLS and the ninth occasion in his professional career that he has scored at least four goals in a single match.

His four goals took his MLS tally for the 2026 season to 18, moving him to the top of the league’s scoring chart. He also provided an assist during the match.

The victory was historic for Inter Miami, representing the biggest win in the club’s history and the first time the team had scored seven goals in a match.

The result moved Miami to second place in the Eastern Conference and provided a major boost after their recent difficult run.

Messi’s latest achievement further extends his remarkable scoring record across Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Inter Miami and Argentina.

With 927 career goals in 1,171 professional matches, the Argentine continues to add to one of football’s most extraordinary scoring records.
