Melaye Threatens Mass Action If Atiku Is Arrested Over Corruption Petition
Former Kogi State Senator Dino Melaye has threatened mass action if former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar is arrested over a corruption petition.
Former Kogi State Senator Dino Melaye has threatened mass action if the Federal Government arrests former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar over a corruption petition.
Melaye issued the warning while reacting to the controversy surrounding a petition against Atiku, amid calls for authorities to investigate allegations contained in the complaint.
He said any attempt to arrest Atiku over the matter would attract resistance, warning that Nigerians would not remain silent if the former vice-president was subjected to what he described as political persecution.
The former lawmaker maintained that the allegations against Atiku should be subjected to due process and investigated transparently rather than being used as a tool for political intimidation.
He urged the government to focus on addressing corruption through established legal institutions and ensure that investigations were conducted without political interference.
The development comes amid renewed political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections, with Atiku and other opposition figures increasingly involved in efforts to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Melaye called on Nigerians and opposition supporters to remain vigilant and defend democratic principles, saying any attempt to unlawfully intimidate political opponents would have consequences.
