Mbappé Scores Brace as Real Madrid Thrash Sevilla 4-1
Kylian Mbappé scored twice as Real Madrid cruised to a 4-1 victory over Sevilla in La Liga on Sunday, October 18, at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.
The French forward delivered an impressive performance, scoring a superb individual goal before converting a penalty in the second half to help Madrid secure all three points.
Arda Güler opened the scoring for the hosts in the 30th minute with a powerful left-footed strike from outside the penalty area.
Mbappé doubled Madrid’s advantage seven minutes later, turning past a defender before rounding Sevilla goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos and calmly finishing.
The forward completed his brace in the 63rd minute, converting a Panenka-style penalty after being brought down inside the box by Andrés Castrín.
Sevilla attempted to fight back and reduced the deficit in the 80th minute through substitute Manu Bueno, who finished neatly to give the visitors renewed hope.
However, Madrid restored their three-goal cushion just two minutes later when Yan Diomande produced a powerful strike from outside the area to seal the emphatic victory.
The match was not without controversy, as Sevilla protested an earlier incident involving Güler and Peque Fernández. Sevilla’s coaching staff questioned the decision not to send off the Madrid midfielder. Madrid manager José Mourinho said he had not seen footage that would allow him to comment on the incident.
The victory lifted Real Madrid to third place in the league standings, with 21 points, while Sevilla remained sixth on 14 points. Madrid were six points behind leaders Barcelona after the Catalan side defeated Real Betis 5-2 on Saturday.
The result gives Madrid a confidence boost ahead of next weekend’s highly anticipated El Clásico against Barcelona, a fixture that could have significant implications for the early-season title race.
Madrid will look to maintain their momentum, while Sevilla must regroup after suffering a heavy defeat on their visit to the Spanish capital.
