Manchester United Sign 16-Year-Old Nigerian-Descendant Midfielder David Eze
Manchester United have signed 16-year-old midfielder David Eze from rivals Manchester City, with the England youth international joining the club’s academy.
Manchester United have completed the signing of 16-year-old midfielder David Eze from Manchester City.
The Premier League club confirmed the move on Saturday, with Eze joining United’s academy after eight years in Manchester City’s youth system.
Eze, who is of Nigerian descent, was born in Dublin, Ireland, to a Nigerian father and Irish mother before moving to Manchester at the age of five.
The central midfielder progressed through City’s academy and represented the club at Under-15 and Under-16 levels. He has also represented England at youth level.
The teenager is understood to have signed scholarship terms with Manchester United and will be eligible to sign his first professional contract when he turns 17 in March 2027.
His transfer had been indicated earlier when the Football Association listed Manchester United as his club in an England youth squad announcement before the move was officially confirmed.
Eze attracted interest from several clubs, including Arsenal, but opted to continue his development at Old Trafford.
Manchester United welcomed the youngster, describing him as a talented prospect, while confirming that he had joined after leaving Manchester City.
The move makes Eze the latest young player to cross the Manchester divide as United continue to strengthen their academy ranks.
