Man Utd, Villa Target Last 16 as Carabao Cup Draw Holds Wednesday Night

Manchester United and Aston Villa will be among the clubs seeking places in the Carabao Cup fourth round when the competition’s third-round fixtures continue on Wednesday night.

United will host Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford, while Aston Villa travel to Coventry City, with both matches scheduled for 8pm Nigerian time.

The fourth-round draw will take place shortly after the Manchester United-Brighton fixture. Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp and ex-Aston Villa captain Ashley Young are expected to conduct the draw, with presenter Pien Meulensteen hosting the proceedings.

The remaining Wednesday fixtures will see Everton host Wolverhampton Wanderers and Fleetwood Town face Sheffield United.

Eleven clubs have already secured their places in the last 16. Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, Sunderland, Newcastle United, Chelsea and Bradford City progressed from the first set of third-round matches, while Arsenal, Liverpool, Fulham, Brentford and Peterborough United advanced on Tuesday.

Arsenal defeated Ipswich Town 4-2 away from home, Liverpool beat Tottenham Hotspur 3-1, Fulham overcame West Ham United 3-2, Brentford edged Reading 2-1, while Peterborough progressed on penalties following a 3-3 draw with Barnsley.

The final place in the fourth round will be decided on Thursday when defending champions Manchester City host Championship side Norwich City.

The fourth-round ties are scheduled to be played during the week commencing October 26, with the draw determining the fixtures for the 16 remaining clubs.

For Manchester United, Wednesday’s tie offers an opportunity to move into the last 16, while Villa must overcome Coventry in a local contest to keep their hopes of another deep cup run alive.
