‘Let Him Finish the Good Work’ — Oba of Benin Backs Tinubu for Second Term

The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, has endorsed President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term in office ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The monarch made his position known on Tuesday when the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council visited the Benin Royal Palace in Edo State to seek his blessing and support for Tinubu’s re-election bid.

The delegation was led by the Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Abdulaziz Yari, and included Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume; former Sokoto State Governor, Aliyu Wamakko; former APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje; and other members of the campaign council.

During the visit, Yari conveyed Tinubu’s greetings to the monarch and appealed for his support ahead of the 2027 election. He also highlighted what the campaign council described as achievements of the Tinubu administration, including developments in food prices, exchange-rate stability and road construction.

Responding, Oba Ewuare II thanked Tinubu for the warm reception he received during his visit to the State House in Abuja.

The monarch said he believed the President should be given another term based on his assessment of the administration’s performance.

“For somebody who is doing well, it is our prayer that he gets a renewed mandate,” the Oba said.

He subsequently urged Nigerians and opposition parties to support the President, while calling on critics to allow the administration to continue its work.

“Let he who is without sin cast the first stone,” the monarch said. “If one is doing well, why not join hands with the president to do what he is doing well? Let President Tinubu finish the good work.”

The endorsement comes as political activities ahead of the 2027 presidential election continue to intensify, with the APC campaign council consulting traditional rulers and other stakeholders across the country.

The Oba also asked the delegation to convey his best wishes and appreciation to Tinubu for the hospitality extended to him during his visit to Abuja.
