Late Herbert Wigwe’s Daughter Tochi Holds Traditional Wedding in Lagos
Tochi Wigwe, daughter of late banking executive Herbert Wigwe, has held her traditional wedding ceremony with investment professional Wilson Aikhomu in Ikoyi, Lagos, more than two years after losing her parents and elder brother in a helicopter crash.
Tochi Wigwe, the eldest surviving daughter of late former Access Bank Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Herbert Wigwe, has celebrated her traditional marriage to investment executive Wilson Aikhomu in Ikoyi, Lagos.
The private ceremony, held on Wednesday and attended by members of both families and close friends, featured traditional marriage rites, including the payment of the bride price, signing of family documents and the formal handing over of the bride to her husband's family.
Videos and photographs from the occasion circulated on social media on Thursday, attracting congratulatory messages and goodwill wishes from well-wishers.
Tochi studied at New York University and obtained a master's degree from Imperial College London. She previously worked as an analyst at Access Bank and interned at Coronation Merchant Bank.
She currently serves as a director at the Herbert Onyewumbu Wigwe (HOW) Foundation, established in memory of her late father.
Her husband, Wilson Aikhomu, is a Lagos-based investment professional and the Managing Partner and Chief Investment Officer of Zoya Admiralty.
He is the son of late Rear Admiral Joseph Aikhomu and nephew of former Chief of General Staff, Admiral Augustus Aikhomu.
Aikhomu studied Finance at California State University, Northridge, before obtaining a qualification in Investments and Risk Finance from the University of Westminster. He previously worked with Leadway and RMB Stockbroking before assuming his current position.
The wedding marks a new chapter for the Wigwe family following the tragic death of Tochi's parents and elder brother in a helicopter crash in the United States on February 9, 2024.
Herbert Wigwe, his wife, Chizoba, and their son, Chizi, were among six people killed when the helicopter crashed near Nipton, California, while travelling from Palm Springs to Boulder City, Nevada. The incident also claimed the lives of former Nigerian Exchange Group Chairman, Abimbola Ogunbanjo, and two crew members.
Herbert Wigwe, who was 57, was a prominent figure in Nigeria's banking sector and played a significant role in the growth and expansion of Access Bank and Access Holdings.
His death attracted widespread tributes from the country's business, banking and political communities.
