LASU Assures Qualified English Students Won’t Spend Extra Year
Lagos State University has assured students in its Department of English that no student who has fulfilled all graduation requirements will spend an additional year because of the recent missing-results controversy. The university said all outstanding results had been uploaded as of Aug. 23.
The management of Lagos State University, Ojo, has assured students that no qualified student will spend an extra year at the institution over missing results.
The assurance followed reports that about 100 final-year students in the Department of English were at risk of spending an additional year after some of their 300-level results were allegedly not uploaded.
The controversy generated reactions on social media, with concerns that affected students could be prevented from graduating with their colleagues in the 2025/2026 academic session.
However, LASU said the matter had been resolved following an investigation by the university management.
In a statement on Sunday, the university said the Department of English had uploaded all outstanding results as of Aug. 23.
The institution said students who had met all graduation requirements would graduate with their colleagues in the 2025/2026 academic session.
“No student who has met all graduation requirements will be required to spend an extra year on account of the issue raised,” the university said.
LASU, however, clarified that students whose results remained outstanding after the latest upload may not have completed all the requirements for graduation.
The university advised such students to complete any outstanding requirements necessary for graduation.
The management reiterated its commitment to ensuring that students who have fulfilled all graduation requirements are not unnecessarily delayed in completing their programmes.
