Lagos Makes LASRRA Registration Mandatory For School Enrolment

The Lagos State Government has made registration with the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) compulsory for learners enrolling in all public and private schools across the state.

The directive will take effect from Monday, September 14, 2026, with schools required to obtain and record each learner’s valid LASRRA registration number during admission and enrolment.

The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Tolani Alli-Balogun, approved the directive, which is being implemented through the Office of Education Quality Assurance.

The government said the policy is aimed at establishing a comprehensive and verifiable database of learners in Lagos to improve education planning, monitoring and service delivery.

It added that registering learners on the LASRRA database would strengthen identification and verification, improve school record-keeping and provide credible data for evidence-based decisions.

Schools have been directed to include learners’ LASRRA numbers in their admission and school records and sensitise parents and guardians about the requirement.

Parents whose children or wards are not yet registered have been advised to complete the process before the new academic session begins.

The government also directed schools to protect learners’ personal information and handle their data confidentially in line with applicable data-protection requirements.

The Director-General of the OEQA, Dr Sulaimon Olagoke Ogunmuyiwa, said his office would work with LASRRA and other relevant agencies to develop arrangements for generating and assigning unique PINs to learners.

He added that registration, verification and sensitisation support would be provided to schools, parents, guardians and learners, while compliance would form part of the state’s education quality-assurance monitoring.

LASRRA has previously warned residents that its registration is free, urging them to report any registration agent demanding payment.
