Lagos APC Expels Egunjobi, Yusuf Over Anti-Party Activities

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has expelled former Agege Local Government Chairman, Ganiyu Egunjobi, and Azeez Yusuf over alleged anti-party activities and disloyalty.

The expulsion was announced on Wednesday by the state APC Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, following the duo’s defection to the Allied Peoples Movement.

Egunjobi and Yusuf had contested the APC primaries for Agege Constituencies I and II respectively but failed to secure the party’s tickets for the 2026 Lagos State House of Assembly elections.

They subsequently obtained tickets from the APM to contest the same constituencies.

According to the Lagos APC, their decision to seek alternative platforms after losing the party’s nomination contests amounted to a breach of their obligations as APC members.

The party said it had invoked Article 9(5)(II) of the APC Constitution, as amended in 2022, in taking disciplinary action against the two former members.

Ojelabi said the APC would not allow members to participate in its internal processes and subsequently undermine the party by contesting elections on another platform within the same electoral cycle.

He declared that Egunjobi and Yusuf were no longer members of the APC and therefore had no authority to represent, speak for or transact business on behalf of the party.

The party also urged its members, supporters, stakeholders and the general public to take note of their changed status.

The expulsion followed the duo’s earlier explanation of their defection from the APC.

Egunjobi and Yusuf had denied that their decision was linked to Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Mudasiru Obasa, who has been associated with the political dispute surrounding the Agege contests.

They said Obasa had no role in their decision to leave the APC and contest under the APM.

The two former APC members described their decision as independent, saying they had left after what they called “grave injustice” in the handling of the party’s primaries.

They also claimed that they had submitted petitions and sought internal redress but were dissatisfied with the party leadership’s response.

The Lagos APC, however, maintained that members who lose internal contests are expected to accept the outcome or pursue legitimate avenues of redress within the party and the law.

The development comes as political parties prepare for the 2026 Lagos State House of Assembly elections and the wider electoral activities ahead.

The APC said it would continue enforcing its rules and disciplinary measures to protect the cohesion and integrity of the party.
