La Liga: Yamal Hits Double as Barca Beat Valencia 5-0
Lamine Yamal scored twice as Barcelona maintained their perfect La Liga start with a dominant victory over Valencia.
Barcelona continued their impressive start to the La Liga season with a commanding 5-0 victory over Valencia at Mestalla on Sunday.
Lamine Yamal was the star of the afternoon, scoring twice as the reigning champions recorded their fourth consecutive league victory.
Yamal opened the scoring after just six minutes, producing a composed finish after receiving a clever pass from Fermin Lopez.
Fermin doubled Barcelona’s advantage in the 22nd minute, giving the visitors a comfortable lead before half-time.
Barcelona continued to dominate after the restart, with Raphinha extending the advantage in the 50th minute. The Brazilian finished after another impressive attacking move as Barcelona continued to expose gaps in Valencia’s defence.
Pedri added a fourth goal in the 79th minute before Yamal completed his brace five minutes from full time.
The teenager had earlier seen another effort ruled out, but he eventually completed an outstanding individual performance with his second legitimate goal.
Fermin was also influential throughout the match, contributing a goal and two assists as Barcelona controlled proceedings and created numerous opportunities.
The victory leaves Barcelona with a perfect record from their opening four league matches. The Catalan club have scored 17 goals during that run while conceding only two.
Barcelona also moved three points clear at the top of the La Liga table following Real Madrid’s 1-0 defeat against Real Betis on Friday.
Coach Hansi Flick praised his players after the match, saying he was pleased with the way they controlled the game from the beginning.
The result further underlined Barcelona’s attacking strength, with Yamal, Raphinha and Fermin continuing to play important roles in the team’s impressive start.
Valencia, meanwhile, remain at the bottom of the table with just one point from their opening four matches.
Barcelona will now turn their attention to their next fixture as they look to maintain their perfect domestic record and build momentum for the challenges ahead.
The victory also provided another strong indication that Flick’s side are determined to defend their La Liga title after beginning the campaign in emphatic fashion.
