La Liga: Raphinha’s Hat-Trick Secures Barca Win Over Racing as Atletico Thrash Osasuna

Raphinha scored a hat-trick as Barcelona strengthened their position at the top of La Liga with a 7-2 victory over Racing Santander at Camp Nou.

The forward converted two penalties and added another goal from open play as Barcelona produced a dominant attacking display. Joao Cancelo, Gabriel Jesus and Lamine Yamal also scored, while Racing defender Asier Villalibre put through his own net.

Cancelo opened the scoring after eight minutes with a powerful long-range strike before Raphinha doubled the advantage from the penalty spot in the 25th minute.

Racing reduced the deficit through Maguette Gueye, but Barcelona restored their two-goal cushion when Cancelo’s effort deflected into the net off Villalibre. Raphinha then added his second before half-time after being played through by Dani Olmo.

Racing goalkeeper Julen Agirrezabala saved a penalty from Yamal before the interval, preventing Barcelona from extending their advantage further.

The visitors showed more attacking intent after the break and pulled another goal back through Yassir Zabiri, who capitalised on an error by Barcelona goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.

Barcelona responded, with Raphinha completing his hat-trick from another penalty after Karim Adeyemi was brought down inside the box. The goal took Raphinha’s league tally to nine, making him the competition’s leading scorer.

Gabriel Jesus later made it 6-2 with a curling finish before Yamal completed the scoring in the closing stages.

The result maintained Barcelona’s perfect league record after six matches and restored their three-point advantage over Real Madrid. The victory also gave coach Hansi Flick a record seven consecutive competitive wins to begin a season with Barcelona.

Earlier on Wednesday, Atletico Madrid recorded a 4-0 victory over Osasuna at the Metropolitano.

Jonathan David scored in his first start for Atletico, while Lee Kang-in, Robin Le Normand and Alex Baena also found the net.

The win moved Atletico into third place and provided a result ahead of Sunday’s Madrid derby against Real Madrid. Diego Simeone’s side were without injured forward Julian Alvarez, but their attack remained effective throughout the match.

Osasuna, meanwhile, suffered their third consecutive defeat.

The midweek results kept Barcelona at the summit, with Real Madrid second and Atletico Madrid occupying third as the La Liga campaign continues.
