Koeman Jr Makes History as First Eredivisie Goalkeeper to Score Twice in a Match

Ronald Koeman Jr made Eredivisie history on Sunday after becoming the first goalkeeper to score twice in a single match, rescuing a 2-2 draw for Telstar against Cambuur.

The 31-year-old goalkeeper produced a remarkable performance at the BUKO Stadion, scoring both of Telstar’s goals from the penalty spot after his team had fallen two goals behind and been reduced to 10 men.

Telstar’s afternoon took a difficult turn when Nökkvi Thórisson was sent off in the first half, leaving the hosts to play with a numerical disadvantage for more than an hour.

Cambuur took advantage after the break, scoring twice to establish a 2-0 lead and put Telstar in serious danger of suffering defeat.

Koeman Jr then stepped forward to change the course of the match.

After Telstar were awarded a penalty, the goalkeeper travelled the length of the pitch to take responsibility from 12 yards. He remained composed and converted the spot-kick to reduce the deficit to 2-1.

The drama continued deep into stoppage time. Telstar were initially awarded another penalty, but the decision was overturned following a VAR review.

However, another opportunity arrived in the final moments of the match when Telstar were awarded a penalty after a handball. Koeman Jr again took the responsibility and calmly converted in the 101st minute to complete his historic brace.

His second goal secured a valuable point for Telstar and completed an extraordinary comeback despite playing much of the match with 10 men.

The achievement marked the first time a goalkeeper had scored twice in an Eredivisie match. Koeman Jr had already established himself as an unusual penalty taker after scoring a crucial late spot-kick against Volendam last season to help Telstar avoid relegation.

The goalkeeper is the son of Dutch football legend Ronald Koeman, who enjoyed a distinguished playing career before becoming a prominent manager.

Koeman Jr has spent his professional career in the Netherlands and joined Telstar in 2021. He helped the club return to the Eredivisie last season after a 47-year absence from the Dutch top flight.

His latest performance has now added another remarkable chapter to the Koeman family’s football history.

For Telstar, the dramatic draw provided four points from their opening four league matches, while Cambuur were denied their first victory of the season.
