Kidnapped Kogi Councillor Dies After Days in Captivity

A serving councillor in Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State, Rosemary Aduku, has died after spending several days in the custody of her abductors.
Aduku, who represented Ogugu Ward III in the local government’s legislative council, was reportedly kidnapped on October 1, 2026. Details surrounding her death, including whether a ransom was demanded or paid, had not been made public as of Friday.
The Chairman of Olamaboro Local Government Area, Dr Ameh Williams, announced her death in a statement issued on behalf of the Olamaboro Executive Council.
Williams described the deceased, popularly known as Hon. Rosella among her colleagues, as a humble, dependable and caring person who was committed to the well-being of those around her.
He said her death was a painful loss to her family, colleagues in the legislative council, the local government administration and the wider Ogugu community.
The chairman also expressed condolences to her loved ones and constituents, praying for strength for those affected by the loss.
The local government announced that her burial was scheduled for 1 p.m. on Friday at her family compound in Ogugu Centre. Members of the All Progressives Congress were invited to attend the ceremony and pay their last respects.
Aduku’s death adds to concerns over insecurity in Kogi State, where incidents of kidnapping have affected residents and communities. However, further details about the circumstances of her death and the status of efforts to apprehend those responsible were not immediately available.
