Katsina Governor Mourns Slain Islamic Cleric, Calls for Thorough Investigation

Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, has expressed grief over the killing of Islamic cleric Sheikh Yahaya Masussuka, calling for a thorough investigation into the incident and the arrest of those responsible.

Masussuka and his associate, identified as Adamu Abubakar, were reportedly shot dead by unidentified gunmen riding on a motorcycle outside the cleric’s residence in Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area of Katsina State on Monday night, October 26.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Mohammed, the governor condemned the attack and extended his condolences to the deceased’s family, the Muslim community and others affected by the killings.

Radda urged security agencies to intensify efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident, identify the perpetrators and ensure they face the law.

He also appealed to residents to remain calm, cooperate with security operatives and provide credible information that could assist the investigation. He cautioned against actions capable of escalating tensions or undermining peace in the state.

The governor described Masussuka as a religious leader known for promoting peaceful coexistence, interfaith understanding and teachings centred on the Qur’an. He also noted the cleric’s opposition to violent extremism and radicalisation.

Radda urged the bereaved family to remain steadfast in their faith despite the loss, praying for Allah to forgive the deceased, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus and comfort his family, associates and the wider Muslim community.

The Katsina State Police Command has also commenced an investigation into the killings, with tactical and operational teams deployed to track down the assailants. No arrests had been announced in the available reports.
