Kano NDC Members Set to Rejoin APC After Visit to Gov Yusuf

Some prominent members of the National Democratic Congress in Kano State are set to return to the All Progressives Congress following a solidarity visit to Governor Abba Yusuf.

The members, who are loyal to the NDC’s Kano Central senatorial candidate, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, visited Yusuf and his deputy, Murtala Garo, on Tuesday as part of consultations ahead of their planned return to the APC.

The delegation was led by Muhammad Umar, a close ally of Gawuna, and included NDC Kano State Vice Chairman Ali Datti Yako, Mansur Gawuna and Uba Mijinyawa, also known as Uba Danzainab.

Other members of the delegation included Aminu Faruk, Sani Jibrin, Salisu Muhammad, Musa Indabo, Muhammad Bala, Hassan Abdullahi and Abdurrahman Muhammad.

Speaking during the visit, Umar said the group was motivated by its desire to contribute to the development and progress of Kano State.

He said the consultations with the state leadership were aimed at creating an avenue for the members to support initiatives that would improve the lives of residents.

Yako also expressed support for Yusuf’s administration, saying its efforts to transform the state were visible to the people.

He said the delegation was at the Government House to demonstrate solidarity with Yusuf and Garo and support programmes aimed at advancing Kano.

Gawuna, a former Kano Deputy Governor under Abdullahi Ganduje, was the APC governorship candidate in the 2023 election, which he lost to Yusuf, then the candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party.

Gawuna later emerged as the NDC candidate for Kano Central ahead of the 2027 elections.

The reported move by members of his political team back to the APC comes amid renewed political realignments in Kano ahead of the 2027 general elections.
