Kano Governor Threatens to Sack Appointees Selling Empowerment Items
Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has threatened to dismiss political appointees and party officials found selling empowerment items distributed to constituents, urging beneficiaries to use the materials for their intended purposes.
Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has warned political appointees and All Progressives Congress (APC) officials against selling empowerment items distributed to constituents, threatening to dismiss anyone found diverting the items from their intended beneficiaries.
Yusuf issued the warning on Monday through the APC state chairman, Umar Haruna Doguwa, during the 12th empowerment programme organised by Senator Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila, representing Kano South Senatorial District.
The programme featured the distribution of 16 vehicles, 400 motorcycles and sewing machines to beneficiaries to support economic activities and improve livelihoods across the district.
“Whoever sold this intervention will go with his position; I will personally sack him,” the governor warned, stressing that the items were intended to improve beneficiaries’ welfare and should not be sold, particularly by party leaders.
He urged recipients to use the items for their designated purposes, noting that the intervention was designed to strengthen small businesses, promote economic self-reliance and create opportunities for beneficiaries to improve their livelihoods.
At the event, 16 vehicles were presented to APC local government chairmen, while 400 motorcycles were distributed to party executives across Kano South Senatorial District.
In the tailoring sector, 200 beneficiaries received empowerment packages comprising two standard sewing machines and one industrial sewing machine each. The initiative is expected to help them expand their businesses, employ additional workers and train apprentices.
Speaking at the programme, Sumaila said the intervention reflected his commitment to translating the mandate given to him by constituents into tangible development and sustainable economic opportunities.
He acknowledged the economic and developmental challenges facing residents but reaffirmed his commitment to improving living conditions across the senatorial district.
The senator highlighted interventions in security, road infrastructure, agriculture, education, healthcare and water supply as areas receiving attention under his representation.
He said farmers had benefited from agricultural machinery, farming implements, improved seeds and fertiliser to support wet-season and dry-season farming.
Sumaila also listed the construction and rehabilitation of roads, bridges and drainage systems, alongside the provision of motorised, solar-powered and hand-pump boreholes to improve transportation and access to clean water.
In education, he said schools had been constructed and renovated, learning materials supplied, and more than 1,000 students in secondary and tertiary institutions supported.
He added that healthcare facilities across the district had been renovated and equipped with modern medical tools to improve access to medical services.
On security, the lawmaker reaffirmed his commitment to supporting efforts to protect lives and property, while commending local vigilante groups, popularly known as Yan Sa-kai, for their activities in Falgore Forest in Doguwa Local Government Area.
Yusuf also urged APC members to intensify their mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections, expressing optimism about the party’s electoral prospects.
Sumaila assured constituents that he would continue pursuing interventions aimed at extending the benefits of his mandate to communities throughout Kano South, with emphasis on human capital development, economic empowerment and improved living standards.
