Kane Misses Penalty as Dortmund Hold Bayern Munich to 2-2 Draw
Harry Kane struck the crossbar from the penalty spot as Borussia Dortmund scored a late equaliser to secure a point against Bayern Munich.
Borussia Dortmund came from behind twice to hold Bayern Munich to a 2-2 draw in Saturday’s Bundesliga clash at the Allianz Arena, with Harry Kane’s missed penalty and Fabio Silva’s late equaliser among the major talking points.
Kane, playing his first match since winning the Ballon d’Or, had the opportunity to extend Bayern’s lead in the 56th minute after Felix Nmecha handled his effort inside the penalty area. However, the England captain sent his spot-kick against the crossbar.
Bayern had taken the lead seven minutes before half-time through Konrad Laimer, who converted the rebound after Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel saved his initial attempt.
Dortmund responded four minutes after Kane’s penalty miss. Serhou Guirassy finished from close range in the 60th minute after good attacking work from Carney Chukwuemeka to bring the visitors level.
Bayern restored their advantage six minutes later when Dayot Upamecano finished from close range after Kane headed Joshua Kimmich’s cross back across goal.
Kane came close to making amends, striking the post in the 75th minute, but Bayern were unable to establish a two-goal cushion.
Dortmund continued to push for another equaliser and were rewarded in the 89th minute. Substitute Fabio Silva collected the opportunity inside the area and fired into the far corner to make it 2-2.
Bayern nearly snatched victory in stoppage time, but substitute Lennart Karl struck the crossbar as Dortmund held on for a valuable away point.
The result kept both clubs unbeaten after eight Bundesliga matches, with Bayern remaining top of the table on goal difference and Dortmund level with them on 18 points.
The draw denied Bayern the opportunity to open a gap over their closest rivals in the title race, while Dortmund strengthened their position among the early contenders.
