Joshua Begins Training, Awaits Fury Fight Decision

Anthony Joshua has returned to training as he waits for a resolution to the contractual dispute threatening his proposed heavyweight showdown with Tyson Fury.

The 36-year-old has resumed work at Ben Davison’s Essex gym, keeping himself in fighting condition while negotiations over the long-awaited bout remain unresolved.

Joshua had been expected to face Fury in November, with November 20 reportedly earmarked for a potential blockbuster encounter at Madison Square Garden in New York. However, a disagreement over the location written into their respective contracts has complicated the plans.

Joshua’s contract reportedly requires his fight against Fury to take place in the United Kingdom, while Fury’s agreement does not contain the same restriction. That difference has created uncertainty over plans for a potential American venue.

Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, has attempted to resolve the issue by sending an addendum to the original agreement. However, Fury has indicated publicly that he considers the proposed fight to be off and has begun looking at alternative opponents.

Despite the uncertainty, Joshua has chosen to continue training rather than wait for a final decision. His return to Davison’s gym is viewed as a temporary arrangement, with the former heavyweight champion expected to determine his long-term training setup once his next fight is confirmed.

Joshua and Davison previously worked together before the boxer moved to Spain to train with Oleksandr Usyk’s team. The pair have reportedly remained on good terms and kept in contact during the intervening period.

Joshua has recorded two victories since his defeat by Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium in September 2024. He subsequently returned to the ring and secured wins over Jake Paul and Kristian Prenga.

A potential meeting with Fury has remained one of boxing’s biggest anticipated heavyweight contests, with the two British stars having spent years discussing a possible clash without ever sharing the ring.

For now, Joshua is maintaining his fitness while negotiations continue behind the scenes.

The contractual disagreement means the proposed November showdown remains uncertain, leaving both fighters and their teams waiting for an agreement that could finally bring the long-awaited Joshua-Fury rivalry to the ring.
