Former President Goodluck Jonathan, the Olu of Warri and other dignitaries attended the coronation of King Charles Douglas Jaja as the new Amanyanabo of Opobo Kingdom.
Former President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Dame Patience Jonathan, on Saturday attended the coronation of King Charles Douglas Jaja, Jeki VI, as the new Amanyanabo of Opobo Kingdom in Rivers State.
The former President and his wife arrived at the coronation venue in Opobo Town at about 11:15 a.m., alongside other dignitaries.
The Rivers State Government was represented by the Deputy Governor, Prof. Ngozi Odu, while former Deputy Governor Gabriel Toby and his wife, Dame Christie, were also present.
Traditional rulers from other parts of the country attended the ceremony, including the Igwe of Onitsha, King Nnaemeka Obi, and the Olu of Warri.
Other government officials and dignitaries also joined the gathering to witness the installation of the new monarch.
King Charles Douglas Jaja succeeds the late King Dandeson Douglas Jaja, who died in 2025 and was buried in April 2026.
The new monarch was elected in December 2025 as the sixth Amanyanabo of Opobo Kingdom following the death of his predecessor.
Ahead of the coronation, the Vice Chairman of the Opobo Council of Chiefs, Princewill Dappa, said the kingdom had completed preparations for the historic ceremony.
He said a series of activities had been scheduled leading to the grand coronation on Saturday, September 26, in Opobo Town, Opobo Local Government Area.
The coronation marks the formal installation of King Charles Douglas Jaja as the traditional ruler of the ancient kingdom.
