JAMB Explains ‘Not Admitted’, ‘Admission in Progress’ Statuses

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has clarified the meanings of admission statuses candidates may see on its Central Admissions Processing System, commonly known as CAPS.

The Board said candidates whose profiles show “Not Admitted” should not conclude that they have lost the opportunity to secure admission.

According to JAMB, the status simply means that the candidate has not been offered admission at that point. It advised affected candidates to continue checking their CAPS profiles because their status could change as institutions proceed with the admission exercise.

JAMB also explained “Admission in Progress”, a status that has generated concern among candidates awaiting offers.

The Board said the status may indicate that an institution’s admission officer has proposed a candidate for admission, but the process is still awaiting the recommendation of the head of the institution.

It added that “Admission in Progress” could also mean that the head of the institution has recommended the candidate, but the admission is awaiting JAMB’s final approval or disapproval.

The Board, however, cautioned candidates against interpreting the status as confirmation that admission had already been secured.

JAMB stressed that “Admission in Progress” does not amount to automatic admission, as the process still has to be completed before an offer becomes final.

Candidates were therefore advised to regularly monitor their CAPS profiles for changes and rely on official JAMB channels for information about their admission status.

The clarification comes as institutions continue processing admissions for the new academic session.

Candidates who receive admission offers are expected to accept or reject them on CAPS once an offer is displayed on their dashboard.

JAMB had previously advised candidates with admission offers to check their profiles regularly and act promptly once an offer appears.

The explanation is intended to reduce confusion among candidates who see their status change.

For candidates currently seeing “Not Admitted”, the Board’s message is that the status does not necessarily represent a final outcome. Those seeing “Admission in Progress” should understand that their admission is still undergoing the required institutional or JAMB processes.

JAMB urged candidates to remain patient, monitor their profiles regularly and avoid relying on unverified information while the admission exercise continues.
