Iseyin Council Awards Scholarships to 18 Students at Technical University
Iseyin Local Government in Oyo State has sponsored 18 indigenes to study at Abiola Ajimobi Technical University, Ibadan, over the past three years, supporting training in medicine, engineering, technology and digital skills.
The Iseyin Local Government Council in Oyo State has sponsored 18 students from the community to study at Abiola Ajimobi Technical University, Ibadan, under a scholarship programme launched three years ago.
The council chairman, Rasaq Fadiran, disclosed this on Thursday while speaking with journalists in Ibadan, explaining that the initiative was designed to support academically promising students and develop skills relevant to the community’s growth.
He said the beneficiaries were selected through a screening process conducted by the university and were pursuing courses in medicine, engineering, technology and basic digital skills.
According to Fadiran, the programme aims to expand access to higher education while equipping young people with knowledge and technical expertise that can contribute to development in Iseyin and Oyo State.
He attributed the implementation of the scholarship scheme to the support of the state government under Governor Seyi Makinde, saying the administration had provided the platform and encouragement needed for the local council to assist students seeking opportunities in medical and technology-related fields.
Fadiran said the council had sponsored the 18 students since he assumed office three years ago, adding that the intervention was intended to create lasting benefits for the beneficiaries, their community and the state.
He expressed satisfaction with the programme’s contribution to educational development and said the council remained committed to supporting initiatives that could improve opportunities for young people.
Six students benefited from the scholarship scheme in 2026 and resumed academic activities on Monday after completing orientation programmes organised by the university’s management.
The scholarship initiative forms part of efforts to support students from Iseyin in accessing specialised higher education and acquiring skills needed in sectors considered important to economic and social development.
The council said the programme would help beneficiaries build their careers while contributing to the progress of their community and Oyo State.
