Iran Rules Out Immediate Talks With US, Reviews Vance’s Message

Iran has ruled out immediate talks with the United States, despite acknowledging recent diplomatic efforts by Washington to reopen dialogue amid concerns over a possible resumption of hostilities.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi disclosed this on Saturday during an interview with Al Jazeera, saying reports of planned meetings between officials of both countries were based on media speculation.

He said Tehran saw no immediate need for direct discussions with Washington, adding that Iran’s conditions had been clearly communicated and were being discussed through diplomatic mediators.

Araghchi confirmed that Iran had received a message from US Vice President JD Vance, which had been reviewed and discussed at high-level meetings.

Although he cautioned that Washington’s intentions would need to be carefully assessed, the Iranian foreign minister described the US effort to establish a channel for broader dialogue as a positive step.

He warned, however, that any attempt to create divisions through the message would represent another diplomatic mistake by the United States.

Meanwhile, diplomatic consultations involving Qatar and Pakistan are continuing, with Iranian representatives engaging mediators over conditions for possible negotiations.

Araghchi said discussions included proposals concerning Iran’s nuclear programme and arrangements relating to the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic shipping route at the centre of tensions between Tehran and Washington.

He maintained that any decision on direct or indirect negotiations would depend on the fulfilment of Iran’s conditions.

The foreign minister also said Iran was prepared for different security scenarios and did not rule out the possibility of renewed military action against the country.
