Iranian authorities said on Wednesday that they had received the United States’ official response to Tehran’s proposal aimed at ending the war and reopening the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

Government spokeswoman Fatemeh Mohajerani said Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi presented the US response to President Masoud Pezeshkian during a Cabinet meeting.

She did not disclose the contents of the response, which was conveyed through Qatari mediators after several days of indirect discussions between Washington and Tehran.

The development came days after US President Donald Trump publicly rejected Iran’s proposal, although subsequent diplomatic contacts have continued through Qatar.

Iran’s seven-day proposal includes conditions for ending hostilities across the Middle East and restoring normal maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a major route for global oil and gas shipments.

Among Tehran’s demands are a ceasefire covering Iran and Lebanon, the unfreezing of Iranian assets held abroad, the lifting of US sanctions on Iran’s oil sector and an end to the American naval blockade of Iranian ports.

In return, Iran has said it would reopen the Strait of Hormuz and allow normal maritime passage once its conditions are met. The proposal also envisages renewed discussions on Iran’s nuclear programme.

The conflict began in late February following US and Israeli strikes on Iran and has continued for about seven months. The confrontation has severely disrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, which is a critical route for global energy supplies.

Iran imposed a blockade on the waterway after the conflict began, while the United States subsequently imposed its own blockade on Iranian ports.

Although fighting has declined in recent weeks, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said on Wednesday that they continued to target small vessels attempting to pass through the strait.

Meanwhile, the United States has continued imposing sanctions on Iranian entities, including airlines, while Washington and Tehran remain engaged in indirect diplomatic efforts.

The latest US response is expected to be reviewed by Iranian officials as Qatar continues efforts to bridge differences between the two sides. Reuters reported that the main disagreement in the current discussions concerns the sequencing of steps under the proposed seven-day trust-building process.
