INEC Uploads 58% of Osun Election Results to IReV as Collation Continues

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has uploaded 2,183 polling unit results from Saturday’s Osun State governorship election to its Result Viewing Portal (IReV), representing about 58 per cent of the expected results.

The uploads began after voting and counting ended at several polling units across the state, as officials commenced the collation of results from Osun’s 30 local government areas.

Checks on the IReV portal as of 6pm on Saturday showed that 2,183 results had been submitted out of the 3,763 polling unit results expected from the election.

IReV is INEC’s online platform for publishing scanned copies of polling unit result sheets. The portal allows voters, political parties, candidates, observers and other stakeholders to independently access and monitor results uploaded by the commission.

INEC had scheduled the close of voting for 2:30pm. However, voters who were already on queues at the time were allowed to complete accreditation and cast their ballots.

Before the electronic uploads commenced, photographs of result sheets from various polling units had circulated among political parties, observers and voters.

The pace of the uploads had also attracted the attention of Nigerian Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, who called on INEC to publish the results promptly.

In posts on X, Davido said timely publication of polling unit results would strengthen transparency and public confidence in the electoral process.

He urged voters to remain at their polling units until their results were uploaded to IReV and advised them to verify that the figures recorded on physical result sheets were correctly entered into the electronic EC8A forms.

Davido also encouraged voters to photograph their polling unit result sheets and submit them through a designated WhatsApp channel to help preserve evidence of the results.

The singer said voters should closely monitor the process from polling units through the various stages of collation.

The ongoing uploads come amid reports of technical challenges with the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) at some polling units, as well as isolated incidents of tension and disruption during the election.

As collation continues, stakeholders are expected to monitor the IReV portal and the official collation process to establish the final outcome of the Osun governorship election.
