Ikeja Electric Begins Meter Refunds for Customers
Ikeja Electric has commenced refunds for customers who paid for electricity meters under the Meter Asset Provider scheme, with the refunds being issued through energy credits.
Ikeja Electric Plc has commenced the refund of payments made by customers for electricity meters under the Meter Asset Provider programme.
The electricity distribution company disclosed this during its September virtual stakeholder engagement, where it provided updates on its operations and addressed customer concerns.
Ikeja Electric said eligible customers would receive their refunds through credits applied to their electricity vending transactions over the approved repayment period.
The company said customers could monitor the status of their refunds online using their meter or account numbers.
The refund dashboard provides information including the cost of the meter, number of refunds received, monthly refund amount, total amount refunded, last refund date and the applicable refund token.
The company advised customers with concerns about their refunds to use its official complaint channels or visit their nearest undertaking office for assistance.
The Meter Asset Provider scheme allows customers to pay for electricity meters upfront, with the cost subsequently refunded through energy credits. The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission has confirmed that customers who paid for meters under the scheme are entitled to repayment through energy credits.
During the engagement, Ikeja Electric also warned customers against engaging unauthorised electricians following recent fatalities linked to unsafe electrical work.
The company’s Head of Quality, Health, Safety and Environment, Olaniyi Olayiwola, urged customers not to allow unqualified persons to climb electricity poles, work on power lines, tamper with electrical installations or carry out illegal connections.
He advised members of the public to report unsafe activities around the company’s infrastructure through its designated safety emergency channels rather than attempting to intervene themselves.
The company also urged residents and communities to maintain adequate clearance around high-voltage power lines, noting that encroachment on electricity infrastructure posed safety risks.
Ikeja Electric’s Head of Corporate Communications, Kingsley Okotie, encouraged customers to rely on the company’s official communication and complaint channels for accurate information and assistance.
