Iheanacho Scores Ninth League Goal in Seventh Straight Game

Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho continued his outstanding start to life in Turkey after scoring his ninth league goal of the season for Bursaspor.

The Nigerian opened the scoring in the 16th minute during Bursaspor’s 2-2 home draw against Esenler Erokspor, extending his scoring streak to seven consecutive league games.

Iheanacho has now scored in every league match he has played this season, establishing himself as one of the most prolific attackers in the Turkish first division.

The 29-year-old joined Bursaspor during the summer after leaving Celtic, where he enjoyed a successful spell that ended with the Scottish club winning a domestic double.

His decision to move to Turkey followed stalled contract negotiations with Celtic, and the Nigerian has quickly repaid Bursaspor’s faith with a remarkable run of goals.

Against Erokspor, Iheanacho gave the hosts the perfect start when he found the net in the 16th minute.

He appeared to have completed a dramatic late winner in the 88th minute, but the effort was ruled out for offside following a VAR review.

Despite missing out on a second goal, his earlier strike was enough to extend his remarkable scoring record to nine goals in seven league appearances.

Iheanacho has also registered two assists, giving him 11 goal involvements in his first seven league matches for the club.

His scoring run has come against Bodrum FK, Iğdır FK, Fatih Karagümrük, Kayserispor, İstanbulspor, Manisa FK and Esenler Erokspor.

The former Manchester City forward’s form has also increased calls for his return to the Super Eagles, particularly with Nigeria preparing for upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches.

Iheanacho has not featured for Nigeria since helping the country win the 2025 Unity Cup, but his current form is likely to put him firmly back into national-team discussions.

With nine league goals already to his name, Iheanacho is emerging as one of the standout Nigerian performers in Europe this season.

His continued consistency will be closely monitored as Bursaspor push for success in the Turkish first division and Nigeria prepare for another important international campaign.
