ICYMI: Kwankwaso Urges Yari to Reconsider Tinubu Campaign Council Role
Kwankwaso urges Abdul’aziz Yari to reconsider leading Tinubu’s 2027 campaign, citing insecurity, poverty and unemployment.
The vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has appealed to former Zamfara State Governor, Abdul’aziz Yari, to reconsider his decision to serve as Director-General of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 election.
Kwankwaso made the appeal in a statement on Sunday while reacting to the APC’s recently constituted campaign council, which has President Bola Tinubu as chairman and Yari as Director-General.
The former Kano State governor questioned why Yari, a former governor and prominent political figure from the North-West, would lead a campaign seeking the continuation of the Tinubu administration.
Kwankwaso argued that the region continues to face serious challenges, including insecurity, poverty, unemployment, displacement and destruction of livelihoods.
“I particularly appeal to my brother, Senator Abdul’aziz Yari, who has accepted to serve as Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, to reflect deeply and reconsider accepting this responsibility,” Kwankwaso said.
He maintained that Yari was familiar with the difficulties confronting communities in the North-West because of his previous experience as Zamfara State governor.
Kwankwaso questioned whether Yari could, in good conscience, campaign for the continuation of an administration under which many Nigerians were still struggling with economic hardship and insecurity.
“I therefore will be surprised if in his good conscience, will lead a campaign whose principal objective is to secure the continuation of a government under which many of the people he once governed, and other innocent Nigerians, remain trapped in these challenges?” he asked.
The appeal comes as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general election, with major parties beginning to assemble campaign structures and mobilise supporters across the country.
The APC recently announced the composition of its 2027 Presidential Campaign Council, appointing Tinubu as chairman.
Vice-President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda were named vice-chairmen, while Yari was appointed Director-General.
Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma was named secretary of the council.
Kwankwaso’s intervention adds to the growing political debate over the Tinubu administration’s record and the alliances taking shape ahead of the 2027 presidential contest.
