I Want Champions League Trophy More Than Anything — Mbappe
Kylian Mbappe says winning the Champions League with Real Madrid is more important to him than the Ballon d’Or.
Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe has declared that winning the UEFA Champions League with the Spanish giants is his biggest priority, insisting he wants the trophy “more than anything.”
Mbappe made the statement after Real Madrid began their 2026–27 Champions League campaign with a 2–1 victory over Inter Milan at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday.
The France international opened the scoring in the first half before Federico Valverde doubled Madrid’s advantage. Inter reduced the deficit through Carlos Augusto in the second half, but Real Madrid held on to secure three points.
Asked whether he would prefer winning the Champions League or the Ballon d’Or, Mbappe placed European glory above the individual award.
“The Champions League is even more important. I play for the club of my dreams,” Mbappe said.
“It’s really important for me to win the Champions League here in Madrid, I want it more than anything.”
Mbappe, who is among the nominees for the 2026 Ballon d’Or, acknowledged that he also has a strong opportunity to win the prestigious individual award after an impressive year.
The 27-year-old scored 10 goals at the 2026 World Cup and has continued his strong form for Real Madrid.
However, the Champions League remains a major ambition for the French forward. Despite his individual achievements, Mbappe is yet to win the competition during his club career.
He joined Real Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain in 2024 after spending several seasons at the French club, where he won domestic honours but failed to lift the Champions League trophy.
Real Madrid were eliminated by Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals of last season’s competition, increasing the pressure on the club to mount a stronger challenge this campaign.
Mbappe said the Spanish giants must improve collectively if they are to compete for European supremacy.
“It’s really early. We just started the Champions League now, we started with a win,” he said.
“We want to be a collective, to be a team who can compete with all the best teams in the world.”
He added that expectations at Real Madrid are always extremely high and expressed hope that the squad would develop into a stronger collective throughout the season.
For Mbappe, however, the target is clear: winning the Champions League with the club he has described as his dream club.
