I Pay ₦6.7bn Debt Monthly, Have Borrowed Nothing Since 2023 — Kaduna Gov
Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani says the state government currently pays about ₦6.7 billion monthly to service inherited debts, while insisting that his administration has not borrowed since taking office in 2023. He said the government had instead prioritised debt repayment and responsible financial management.
Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani says his administration pays about ₦6.7 billion monthly to service debts inherited from previous administrations.
Sani disclosed this while explaining the state’s financial position, insisting that his administration had not taken any new loans since assuming office in 2023.
The governor said the government had focused on managing its finances responsibly while meeting its obligations to creditors.
According to him, the monthly debt-servicing commitment represents a significant portion of the state’s resources and has constrained the funds available for other development priorities.
Sani said his administration inherited substantial domestic and foreign liabilities but had remained committed to honouring the state’s obligations.
He maintained that despite the debt burden, the government had continued to invest in infrastructure and other sectors while avoiding additional borrowing.
The governor said the state’s approach was aimed at reducing its debt exposure and creating greater fiscal stability for future administrations.
He also stressed the need for transparency in public finance, saying Kaduna residents deserved to know how government resources were being managed.
Sani said the government would continue to prioritise projects with direct benefits to residents while maintaining its commitment to responsible borrowing and debt management.
