‘I’m Strong, Ready To Work’ — Tinubu Speaks After Return From Vacation

President Bola Tinubu has returned to Nigeria after spending about four weeks in Europe, declaring that he is healthy, strong and ready to resume official duties.

Tinubu spoke to journalists on Tuesday evening after arriving in Lagos from Paris, France, where he spent the final part of his extended working vacation.

Asked about his condition following concerns raised during his absence, the President dismissed the concerns, saying he was fit and prepared to continue his responsibilities.

“I am hale and strong. I am ready to work. The fact remains that I am here, healthy, sound and ready to go,” Tinubu said.

The President had departed Nigeria on August 30 for London, before travelling to Paris. The Presidency initially described the trip as a three-week working vacation but later announced that his stay had been extended by a few days.

During his time in Europe, Tinubu held several official and business-related engagements. In France, he met French President Emmanuel Macron and businessman Vincent Bolloré, while also engaging with other business leaders.

His extended stay generated public and political debate, particularly after he did not personally attend the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Vice President Kashim Shettima represented Nigeria at the UN gathering and delivered the country’s national statement. The Presidency maintained that Tinubu remained in contact with officials in Nigeria and continued to direct government affairs while abroad.

Tinubu arrived at the presidential wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos at about 6:22pm on Tuesday.

The President is expected to participate in activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary on October 1 and hold official meetings in Lagos before returning to Abuja.

His return marks the end of his extended European working vacation and his resumption of physical engagements in Nigeria.

The Presidency had previously said the President remained in touch with developments in the country throughout his absence and continued to direct the affairs of government.

Tinubu’s remarks on his return came amid continued public interest in his health and the duration of his stay abroad.
