How Friend Deceived Me To Sell My Kidney, Bought Phones With Payment — Victim

A young Nigerian, Samuel Ezekiel, has recounted how his friend allegedly deceived him into undergoing kidney removal at a hospital in Abuja before spending part of the payment on electronic devices.

Ezekiel said his friend, Emmanuel Odeh, initially told him they were going to the hospital but did not fully explain what would happen. He said he trusted Odeh and usually followed his instructions.

According to him, Odeh later connected him with another man identified as David, who took him to an agent named Ben for medical tests. After his initial test did not match the intended recipient, Ezekiel said he was later informed that another recipient had been found.

He alleged that Ben subsequently told him his kidney was a match and that his name would be changed to “Hassan Abubakar” for the procedure.

Ezekiel said they were taken to the Federal High Court, where an affidavit was prepared, before proceeding to Wellington Hospital in Life Camp, Abuja.

He said documents were signed at the hospital before he was taken into the theatre on April 24.

According to Ezekiel, money in dollars was brought to them late at night before the operation. He said he handed the money to Odeh for safekeeping before entering the theatre.

After the procedure, however, Ezekiel alleged that Odeh had changed the money and spent part of it on two phones, two power banks and two Wi-Fi devices.

He said Odeh gave him one of each item and kept the other for himself.

Ezekiel said he remained in the hospital for about a week before being discharged. Odeh then allegedly took him to a hotel, where they stayed for two days, before travelling to Cross River State.

The victim said they remained in Cross River for about three months. When he eventually asked Odeh about the money, he was allegedly told that it had been spent.

Ezekiel further alleged that Odeh later collected and sold his phone after claiming they had no money for transportation back to Abuja.

He said he had been informed that his kidney would be removed but claimed his friend reassured him that the procedure would not cause problems.

The account emerged as police intensified investigations into an alleged organ-harvesting syndicate operating around Abuja and Nasarawa State. Several suspects, including medical practitioners and alleged recruiters, have been arrested as investigations continue.
