Hamilton Eyes Historic Ferrari Victory At Monza

Lewis Hamilton says the possibility of making history with Ferrari has been on his mind ahead of this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix at Monza.

The seven-time world champion is seeking his first victory at Ferrari’s home race since joining the team. A win would also mark his 107th career Grand Prix victory.

Hamilton, who has already won the Italian Grand Prix five times, said he only recently realised he shares the record for the most victories at Monza with Ferrari legend Michael Schumacher.

The Briton said winning in Ferrari colours would carry a special significance, particularly because it could make him the first Black driver to win the Italian Grand Prix for the Italian team.

“There's a first ahead of me,” Hamilton said, reflecting on the possibility of winning at Monza with Ferrari. He described the prospect as “phenomenal”.

Hamilton also highlighted the pressure of delivering in front of Ferrari’s passionate home supporters, known as the Tifosi, as well as members of the team’s workforce who will attend the race.

His mother will also be at Monza for the weekend, with Hamilton saying he wanted her to experience a Ferrari home race.

The Briton’s chances have been boosted by Ferrari’s latest engine upgrade, the second improvement permitted for the team during the 2026 season.

Ferrari has struggled to match Mercedes’ power unit performance this year, with Hamilton saying the team had been losing significant time during races.

However, he praised the work being done at the Ferrari factory and said the team now had a clearer development direction compared with last season.

Hamilton remains confident that Ferrari can challenge for victory, saying the latest upgrades represent a step forward even if they have not completely closed the gap to Mercedes.

The Italian Grand Prix takes place at Monza on Sunday, with Hamilton hoping to add another historic chapter to his remarkable Formula 1 career.
