Gunmen kill Rivers father of four, family demands justice and urges police to prosecute perpetrators.
Gunmen have shot dead a father of four, identified as Kamadioye Krama, in Emulation community, Abua/Odual Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The incident occurred at about 8pm on Friday when Krama went to a community venue where youths were preparing for the coronation of a stakeholder, identified as ThankGod.
According to the deceased’s elder brother, Monday Krama, Kamadioye had returned from the farm, gone for a haircut and later proceeded to the town where youths were arranging canopies ahead of the ceremony.
He said the gunmen suddenly appeared and opened fire on the gathering, killing Kamadioye.
Monday dismissed reports that the gathering was political, explaining that his brother was simply watching the youths prepare for the coronation.
He said the family was devastated by the killing and was demanding justice for the deceased.
“All we are asking is justice. Let the police investigate the incident and ensure those behind my brother’s death are prosecuted,” he said.
Kamadioye was married and left behind four children, according to his elder brother.
The family has also lodged an official complaint at the Abua/Odual Police Division, while the Divisional Police Officer and other officers have visited the family following the incident.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting and the motive of the attackers remained unclear as of Saturday.
The Rivers State Police Command confirmed the killing and said an investigation had commenced to establish the circumstances surrounding the death and identify those responsible.
The command’s spokesperson, Blessing Agabe, said the police were working to uncover what led to the incident and apprehend the culprits.
She said the command remained committed to ensuring that appropriate action would be taken based on the outcome of the investigation.
However, there was no indication from the police that the killing was connected to a political gathering, contrary to earlier reports that had circulated after the incident.
The family is awaiting the police investigation while calling for the perpetrators to be identified and prosecuted swiftly.
The police have not announced any arrests, while investigations continue into the killing.
