Gunmen Attack Immigration Office in Ogbomoso, Steal Firearms
Gunmen reportedly attacked the Nigeria Immigration Service office in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, on Tuesday night, overpowering officers and stealing firearms, while police say details are still being verified.
Suspected gunmen on Tuesday night reportedly attacked the Nigeria Immigration Service office in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, making away with firearms belonging to officers on duty.
The incident occurred around 10:00 p.m. at the immigration office along the Ogbomoso–Ilorin Motorway, near the NNPC filling station, according to eyewitness accounts.
Sources said the attackers stormed the facility while commercial activities were still ongoing around the nearby Ayanyan Cattle Market, creating panic in the area.
During the assault, officers on duty were reportedly overpowered and dispossessed of their weapons. The exact number of firearms stolen has not yet been confirmed.
The attackers were said to have fled the scene immediately after the operation, escaping under the cover of darkness before security reinforcements could arrive.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Command, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said he had not yet been formally briefed on the incident.
“I have not been briefed on the incident at this time. I will provide updates as soon as the necessary information becomes available,” he stated.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities had not released an official statement confirming the full details of the attack, while investigations were expected to determine the circumstances and identify the perpetrators.
Security agencies are expected to intensify surveillance in the area following the reported incident.
