Gombe Swears in 19 Newly Appointed Permanent Secretaries

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has sworn in 19 newly appointed Permanent Secretaries, describing the exercise as the largest single appointment of Permanent Secretaries in the history of the state.

Yahaya made the disclosure on Thursday during the swearing-in ceremony held at the International Conference Centre, Gombe.

The governor said the latest appointments had increased to 55 the total number of Permanent Secretaries appointed by his administration over the last seven and a half years.

He described the appointments as part of his administration’s ongoing efforts to reform, strengthen and reposition the state civil service for improved efficiency and service delivery.

Yahaya said the government remained committed to building a professional and responsive civil service capable of effectively implementing policies and programmes designed to improve the lives of residents.

According to him, the appointment of the Permanent Secretaries was based on the need to strengthen the administrative structure of government and ensure that ministries, departments and agencies were adequately equipped with experienced personnel.

He urged the newly sworn-in officials to see their appointments as a call to greater responsibility and service to the people of Gombe State.

The governor charged them to uphold the principles of professionalism, accountability, integrity and diligence in the discharge of their duties.

He also urged the Permanent Secretaries to support the implementation of government policies and ensure that public resources were used responsibly for the benefit of citizens.

Yahaya emphasised the importance of an efficient civil service to the success of government programmes, noting that policies could only produce meaningful results when effectively implemented by competent public servants.

The governor said his administration would continue to invest in institutional reforms and human capital development as part of efforts to strengthen governance in the state.

The latest appointments bring the number of Permanent Secretaries appointed under the Yahaya administration to 55 since it assumed office.

The governor expressed confidence that the newly appointed officials would contribute positively to the transformation of the state civil service and help improve the quality and speed of government services delivered to residents.

The new Permanent Secretaries are expected to assume their respective responsibilities as the administration continues its efforts to reposition the civil service as a more effective instrument for implementing its development agenda.
