Gombe Fire Service Contains Outbreak at State Media Corporation, N20m Saved

The Federal Fire Service, Gombe State Command, has saved property estimated at N20 million from a fire outbreak at the staff quarters of the Gombe Media Corporation.

The incident occurred on Saturday, September 19, 2026, affecting a residential building within the corporation’s staff quarters.

According to a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the FFS Gombe State Command, ASF Muazu-Bashir Musa, the command received a distress call at 4:06pm and mobilised an FFS 215 Multipurpose Water Tender from the ATM Fire Operation Base.

The fire truck departed the base at 4:10pm and arrived at the scene at 4:25pm, when firefighters began operations to contain the blaze.

The fire service said the affected building was suspected to have caught fire as a result of an electrical fault.

Firefighters successfully extinguished the blaze and prevented it from spreading to other buildings within the premises.

The command estimated that property worth about N6 million was destroyed, while property valued at approximately N20 million was saved through the intervention.

No casualty was recorded during the incident, according to the fire service.

The operation was led by DSF Ali Kidams, while IF Adamu Babayo served as the driver of the water tender. Firefighters also participated in the response.

Personnel from the FFS 256 Mega Park Fire Station, Gombe State Fire Service and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps supported the operation.

After the fire was extinguished, firefighters inspected the premises and confirmed that there was no further threat before leaving the scene at 5:28pm.

The command attributed the successful containment partly to the prompt reporting of the incident, which allowed firefighters to mobilise quickly and act.

The Federal Fire Service commended members of the public for promptly reporting emergencies and urged residents to notify fire authorities immediately whenever they observe outbreaks.

It also advised residents and property owners to ensure that electrical installations are regularly inspected and maintained by qualified professionals to reduce the risk of fires.

The incident highlights the importance of rapid emergency response and proper fire prevention measures, particularly where electrical faults can quickly develop into serious emergencies.

The FFS said continued public vigilance and timely reporting remain important in preventing fires from causing greater damage to lives and property in the state.
