The Ghanaian Government has rejected a GH¢20 million support package offered by MTN Ghana to assist victims of xenophobic attacks in the country.

The government said the situation required a coordinated response involving relevant state institutions rather than a standalone financial intervention from a private company.

MTN Ghana had offered the funds as part of efforts to support people affected by recent xenophobic incidents and help communities recover from the attacks.

However, the government declined the offer, indicating that it would determine the appropriate mechanism for supporting victims and addressing the underlying causes of the violence.

The development comes amid renewed concerns over the treatment of foreign nationals in parts of Ghana, with businesses and community leaders calling for stronger measures to prevent attacks and discrimination.

The government has continued to engage stakeholders on measures to protect residents, maintain public order and prevent further incidents.

It also urged citizens to avoid actions capable of threatening peaceful coexistence between Ghanaians and foreign nationals.
