The highly anticipated heavyweight clash between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua has been signed, according to Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn.

Hearn confirmed that both sides had agreed to the fight contract, dismissing recent suggestions from Fury that the bout could collapse.

“We’ve signed the contract, we’re waiting for a date,” Hearn said.

He added that neither fighter could simply withdraw from the agreement because the fight was contractually binding.

The major outstanding issue is the location of the contest. The fight had been expected to take place in the United Kingdom, but organisers are considering moving it to the United States, with New York’s Madison Square Garden among the venues being discussed.

Fury had earlier claimed that the fight was unlikely to happen, criticising Hearn over what he described as demands for additional financial terms.

Hearn, however, said the dispute centred largely on the terms required if the bout was moved from Britain to the United States.

The proposed contest has been one of the most anticipated all-British heavyweight fights, with the two former world champions having been linked with a meeting for several years.

With the contractual agreement now confirmed, negotiations are focused on finalising the date and venue for the bout.
