Fury Claims Joshua Fight is Off, Calls for Usyk Trilogy
Tyson Fury has claimed his proposed heavyweight clash with Anthony Joshua is off, turning his attention to a third fight against Oleksandr Usyk.
Former heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has claimed Anthony Joshua is backing out of their much-anticipated all-British showdown, prompting him to challenge Oleksandr Usyk to a trilogy fight.
Fury and Joshua have been negotiating a long-awaited meeting expected to take place in November, but the venue has yet to be agreed.
In a video posted on Instagram, Fury claimed Joshua was pulling out of the fight and said the development would lead him back to Usyk.
Fury challenged the Ukrainian to face him again in November, saying he was now looking for a new opponent.
Fury has lost twice to Usyk, who became a two-time undisputed heavyweight champion after defeating him in their previous encounters.
Joshua has also been working with members of Usyk’s training team ahead of his proposed clash with Fury.
Madison Square Garden in New York had been widely expected to host the Fury-Joshua bout, although Joshua’s camp reportedly prefers Wembley Stadium.
Sela, the Saudi state-owned company financing the fight, and broadcaster Netflix are believed to favour a US venue, with the disagreement over location contributing to the uncertainty surrounding the bout.
Fury’s latest claim has not been confirmed as a final cancellation, with reports indicating that negotiations over the venue and other arrangements remain unresolved.
