FRSC Sends 19,560 Number Plates To FCT After Delay Complaints
The Federal Road Safety Corps has dispatched 19,560 vehicle number plates to Abuja following complaints about prolonged delays in registration and collection.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has dispatched 19,560 vehicle number plates to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to address complaints about delays in the issuance and collection of plates by vehicle owners.
The development follows concerns from motorists and vehicle dealers over difficulties obtaining number plates after completing registration procedures.
The corps said the shipment was intended to ease the backlog and improve access to the plates required for vehicle identification and lawful operation on Nigerian roads.
The delays have caused inconvenience for motorists, particularly those who have completed the necessary documentation and payments but are still waiting for their plates. The situation has also raised concerns about the impact of administrative and supply challenges on vehicle registration services.
The FRSC is responsible for vehicle registration coordination, number plate administration and road safety enforcement in collaboration with relevant state and FCT authorities.
Number plates are an essential part of vehicle identification, helping enforcement agencies trace vehicles, investigate traffic offences and support security operations. Their timely issuance is therefore important to both road safety and the enforcement of traffic regulations.
The delivery of the 19,560 plates is expected to improve availability in the FCT, although the extent to which it will clear the backlog will depend on existing demand and the distribution process.
Motorists awaiting their plates are expected to follow instructions from the relevant registration offices regarding collection and any outstanding documentation.
The development also highlights the need for authorities to improve supply planning, communication and administrative processes to prevent recurring delays.
The FRSC has continued to emphasise compliance with vehicle registration requirements and the use of valid number plates, warning that motorists must ensure their vehicles meet applicable regulations.
