Four Vehicles Crash on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Worsens Gridlock
A crash involving three trucks and a car at Otedola, Lagos, has worsened traffic congestion on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, with the backlog stretching to the Toll Gate.
A multiple-vehicle crash involving three trucks and a car has occurred at Otedola, shortly before the bridge inward Berger on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Lagos State.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority disclosed the incident on Wednesday, saying its officers had immediately mobilised to the scene to begin rescue and evacuation operations.
Personnel of the Nigerian Police Force and other first responders also joined the operation to assist with the evacuation and management of the scene.
LASTMA said the crash had caused a significant traffic backlog stretching to the Toll Gate, adding that its officers were managing traffic in the area to reduce the impact on motorists.
The agency said efforts were ongoing to remove the obstruction and restore normal vehicular movement along the affected section of the expressway.
The latest incident occurred as motorists continued to grapple with severe congestion caused by an earlier multiple-vehicle crash at Kara Bridge on Tuesday.
That crash involved seven vehicles and disrupted movement towards Ogun State, with the resulting gridlock extending beyond the Long Bridge towards Magboro and into Lagos.
Motorists were reportedly trapped in the congestion for more than 14 hours, while some drivers attempting to escape the traffic by moving against the flow further worsened the situation.
The fresh crash at Otedola has added to the difficulties faced by commuters using the busy Lagos-Ibadan corridor.
