Former Genk Assistant Manager Reveals Arokodare’s Biggest Strength
Former Genk assistant manager Jan Wuytens has praised Tolu Arokodare’s aerial ability, pace and strength, saying the Nigerian striker becomes particularly difficult to contain when supplied with crosses.
Former KRC Genk assistant manager Jan Wuytens has highlighted Tolu Arokodare’s aerial ability as one of the Nigerian striker’s biggest strengths.
Arokodare, who currently plays for Ajax, initially struggled to adapt to Genk’s high-pressing style, according to Wuytens, who worked with the forward during his time at the Belgian club.
Wuytens said Arokodare found the amount of running required when pressing difficult at first, but became more effective during his second season as Genk began to utilise his qualities more deliberately.
The former assistant manager said the club increased its focus on crossing during training and encouraged players to deliver more balls into the penalty area for Arokodare to attack.
He described the striker as particularly difficult to stop in such situations, pointing to his heading ability and pace.
Wuytens also noted that Arokodare gradually adapted to the tempo and frequent transition moments in Belgian football.
He said the Nigerian possesses a distinctive personality and that coaches need to find the right tactical approach to bring consistency out of him.
According to Wuytens, Arokodare became increasingly productive as Genk learned how to maximise his strengths. He added that the striker was effective at holding up the ball and allowing teammates to join attacks.
Wuytens said a system involving crosses and supporting runners could make Arokodare a particularly effective attacking option.
