FG Unveils Online Discount Platform for Serving, Retired Military Personnel
FG launches online discount shop to help military personnel, veterans and families access essential goods at reduced prices.
The Federal Government has launched an online discount platform designed to enable serving and retired Armed Forces personnel, veterans and their families to access essential goods at reduced prices.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, formally launched the Armed Forces Online Discount Shop in Abuja on Thursday.
Akume said the initiative was part of efforts to strengthen the welfare of military personnel and their families, stressing that the wellbeing of those serving the country should extend beyond operational support.
He particularly welcomed the inclusion of veterans and their families in the programme, noting that their contributions and sacrifices deserved continued recognition and support.
The platform, operated through Konga, will allow eligible serving and retired military personnel to conveniently purchase a range of goods at discounted prices.
Akume said the initiative demonstrated how technology and strategic partnerships could be used to provide practical benefits to citizens who had dedicated themselves to national security.
He also commended Defence Headquarters and Zinox Group for establishing the partnership behind the programme.
The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, said the initiative was the first of several welfare measures expected to be introduced over the next three months under the Armed Forces’ “Soldier First” leadership principle.
Oluyede said the military was exploring additional partnerships with major companies to expand access to essential goods and services for personnel and veterans.
He specifically mentioned discussions with companies such as Dangote Group and BUA Cement to provide access to building materials and other essential commodities.
The Chief of Defence Staff said the military would continue to use technology and private-sector partnerships to improve welfare and service delivery.
He added that the scheme would be expanded to include more vendors and a wider range of essential commodities.
Plans are also being considered for physical outlets where military personnel could access goods and services at discounted prices.
Chairman of Zinox Group, Leo Stan Ekeh, said the partnership was the company’s contribution towards recognising the sacrifices and dedication of members of the Armed Forces and their families.
A Memorandum of Understanding between Defence Headquarters and Zinox Group was signed during the launch to formalise the implementation of the online discount scheme.
The initiative is expected to provide serving personnel, retirees, veterans and their families with easier access to essential products while supporting broader efforts to improve military welfare through digital innovation and private-sector collaboration.
