FG Unveils Free Digital Procurement Training for MSMEs
The Federal Government has launched free online procurement training to help Nigerian small businesses understand bidding procedures and access public contracts.
The Federal Government has unveiled a free digital public procurement training programme designed to help micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) improve their understanding of government contracting and compete more effectively for public procurement opportunities.
The initiative was introduced by the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) as part of efforts to address barriers that prevent small businesses from participating in government contracts.
The online platform provides learning materials to guide entrepreneurs through key stages of public procurement, including identifying contract opportunities, preparing bids, understanding tender requirements and managing contract execution.
The training is designed to make procurement knowledge more accessible to business owners, particularly those who lack the resources to attend conventional training programmes. Participants can access the platform using computers, tablets and smartphones.
The programme also features interactive learning modules, quizzes and practical examples to help users understand procurement rules and procedures. Participants can obtain a certificate after completing the training.
The BPP said the initiative would help reduce information gaps, improve the preparedness of small businesses and encourage wider participation in public procurement.
Micro, small and medium enterprises play a significant role in Nigeria’s economy, contributing to employment generation, local production and enterprise development. However, many face difficulties navigating public procurement processes because of limited technical knowledge, documentation requirements and a lack of information about available opportunities.
The training is expected to equip entrepreneurs with the knowledge needed to understand procurement requirements and submit more competitive bids.
The initiative also aligns with broader efforts to promote transparency, accountability and value for money in government spending by encouraging more qualified businesses to participate in the procurement process.
However, completing the training does not guarantee the award of a government contract. Businesses must still meet the relevant eligibility criteria and comply with applicable procurement laws and tender requirements.
The BPP is encouraging entrepreneurs, business associations and trade groups to take advantage of the programme and strengthen their capacity to compete for eligible public contracts.
The initiative could provide small businesses with a practical entry point into government procurement, although its impact will depend on accessibility, awareness and the availability of suitable contracting opportunities.
