FG Plans CCTV on Niger Bridge to Curb Vandalism
The Federal Government is planning to install closed-circuit television cameras on the Niger Bridge to strengthen surveillance and curb vandalism and other criminal activities around the critical infrastructure.
The Federal Government is planning to deploy closed-circuit television, CCTV, cameras on the Niger Bridge as part of measures to prevent vandalism and protect the infrastructure.
The proposed surveillance system is expected to improve monitoring around the bridge and enable security agencies to respond more quickly to suspicious activities.
The move follows concerns over vandalism and other activities capable of damaging critical infrastructure and disrupting transportation along the important route.
The government said the installation of CCTV cameras would strengthen security around the bridge by providing continuous monitoring and helping authorities identify individuals involved in criminal activities.
The Niger Bridge remains a major transport link connecting communities and facilitating the movement of people and goods between the eastern and western parts of the country.
Authorities have continued to emphasise the need to protect strategic infrastructure from vandalism, theft and other forms of damage.
The government is expected to work with relevant security agencies to ensure effective monitoring of the bridge once the surveillance system is deployed.
The initiative forms part of broader efforts to safeguard federal infrastructure and improve security around major transportation corridors across the country.
